Red alert in Valencia: residents urged to return to their homes to avoid further flooding

On Sunday afternoon, a warning was issued following a red alert declared by the Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Five days after torrential rains caused more than 200 deaths in south-eastern Spain, residents of the Valencia region were ordered to return to their homes due to the threat of intense precipitation.

Increased vigilance against bad weather

The Aemet warned: “Extreme danger. Be very careful!” and announced a new red alert for the southern coast of Valence, valid from 6pm to 11pm. Rainfall totals are forecast to reach 90 mm in just one hour.

As the first drops began to fall on the south of the city and the atmosphere became increasingly stormy, police used loudspeakers to inform residents of the alert and the risk of heavy rain, urging them to return home quickly. Similar scenes unfolded in other neighborhoods, such as Torre de Valencia, where the population was also alerted to the imminent danger.
