Slimane in the spotlight at NRJ Music Awards despite harassment allegations

Despite a sexual harassment complaint being lodged against him, Slimane took to the stage at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on Friday to perform his famous song Mon Amour, captivating the audience with an emotionally-charged a cappella performance. This intense moment preceded his consecration as “Francophone Artist of the Year” at the NRJ Music Awards.

At the award ceremony, Slimane expressed his gratitude with deep emotion, admitting that the award had “a special taste” for him. Addressing his fans, he said, with tears in his eyes, “Thank you for being there, in the streets, in the concerts.” Moved, he also spoke of his daughter: “My daughter, when you grow up, I hope you’ll be proud of your daddy.”

Already crowned several times at the NRJ Music Awards for his prolific career, Slimane, revealed by The Voice, is currently pursuing his Cupidon Tour, which will conclude in January 2025 with two concerts at the Accor Arena in Paris. However, these successes have been tarnished by a sexual harassment complaint lodged by a former technician on his tour. The alleged facts date back to last December, during a concert at the Zénith in Saint-Étienne.

This context was not lost on Indochine frontman Nicola Sirkis, who dedicated his band’s award at the same ceremony to “all women who fight for their freedom and all those who suffer moral and sexual harassment”.
