A tragic accident claimed the life of a young man aged 21 on Monday evening, as he crossed the N176 near Quévert (Côtes-d’Armor) as a passenger in a vehicle

At around 11.30pm, a concrete block thrown from a bridge hit the car’s windscreen, causing its immediate death. The 26-year-old driver was taken to hospital in a state of shock.

According to the authorities, two young individuals were responsible for throwing several bollards from the bridge, endangering motorists on the road below. The two suspects are currently being actively sought by the police. The N176 was closed for several hours on Monday night for the investigation and emergency response.

The perpetrators of a fatal concrete block attack are still being sought

The perpetrators of this tragic act remain unknown for the time being. According to Ouest-France, however, a witness reported the presence of two people on the bridge at the time of the incident. “We hope the investigation will enable us to identify those responsible. But at around 2 a.m., we didn’t have any concrete clues to find them quickly,” confided the commune’s mayor in an interview with the regional daily.

The mayor of Quévert, Philippe Landuré, pointed out that “several projectiles had been thrown” before the tragedy, and that the victim’s death was due to “a single projectile from a gun”.

The projectile, a circular concrete block around 40 centimetres wide, was found at the scene. Investigators also found impacts on the windshields of two other vehicles. The victim, from the Quévert area, is described by the mayor as being at the center of an “exceptional and dramatic event.” Deeply affected, the mayor expressed his thoughts for the young victim and her loved ones.
