New weather warning: heavy rain expected in the south of France
A new spell of rain is approaching
The south of France, particularly the Cévennes and Roussillon regions, are preparing for heavy rain from this Thursday 23 October, according to forecasts from Météo-France. Although the intensity and precise areas affected are still uncertain, this rain could cause further damage in areas already affected by recent flooding.
Saturated soils and increased risk
The forecasts predict an initial wave of moderate rain from Thursday, followed by a strengthening on Friday with intense rainfall expected through to Sunday. ‘The heaviest rain is expected between Friday and Saturday’, said Jérôme Lecou, a forecaster at Météo-France. With the ground already saturated with water from last week’s rain, the absorption capacity of the land is greatly reduced, increasing the risk of further flooding.
A meteorological phenomenon under surveillance
This new Mediterranean episode could affect a wide area, including the Languedoc plain, the coastal areas of Provence, the Côte d’Azur and Corsica. Unlike last week, the rainfall could extend to the plains and coastal areas. Météo-France is closely monitoring the situation, given the potential severity of the flooding. However, uncertainties remain as to the exact location and intensity of this weather event.
