Another shooting in Grenoble: one teenager killed, another injured

Two teenagers were targeted in a shootout on Tuesday 22 October in the heart of the Hoche district of Grenoble. One of the teenagers, aged 15, was fatally shot in the head and died from his injuries. His companion, aged 17, was wounded in the thigh. The unidentified gunmen fled after the attack.

Emergency services responded quickly after being alerted by the sound of gunshots. When they arrived, the two victims were lying in the middle of the street, close to a drug dealing area well known to the police. The 15-year-old, who was already under judicial supervision and involved in drug-related offences, unfortunately did not survive. He had been on the run for just a few hours after fleeing his hostel.

Violence linked to drug trafficking

The second teenager, who suffered a leg injury, was rushed to Grenoble-Alpes Hospital. He is in a stable condition and is also known to the police for handling stolen goods and carrying a weapon.

According to the initial investigation, two individuals on a scooter opened fire on the teenagers before fleeing. The Organised and Specialised Crime Division (DCOS) has been called in and an in-depth investigation is underway to find the perpetrators of this attack.

This tragedy comes on the heels of a series of shootings in Grenoble since the start of the year, with more than twenty episodes of armed violence linked to drug trafficking. The local authorities are now talking of a veritable ‘gang war’. These events are part of a worrying escalation in which settling of scores is becoming increasingly frequent and bloody, severely affecting daily life in the city.
