Renault continues its return to its roots with a new star: after the R5, here’s the electric R4! Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, this new version of the legendary Renault 4 revisits the past while adopting a modern format as a small 100% electric SUV, designed to offer greater versatility and space

Redesigned for greater versatility

22 centimeters taller than the R5, the new Renault 4 is 4.14 meters long. This compact model offers greater comfort in the rear, with an extra 8 centimetres for passengers, as well as a generous 420-liter trunk, ideal for both daily commutes and family outings. Despite its raised ground clearance, its loading sill is a practical 61 cm, making it easy to stow away.

A modern tribute to the 4L

This new R4 pays tribute to its ancestor with nods to the past: the design of the headlamps recalls the 4L, while the shape of the hood and rear lights subtly evoke the iconic model. The big news? A luminous logo makes its first appearance on a Renault production vehicle, reinforcing its futuristic look.

A practical, connected interior

Inside, the R4 uses the 10-inch screens already present on the R5, providing a modern digital display for the meters and infotainment system. Several customization options are also available, and the “Plein Sud” version even includes a sunroof, a nod to the 4L Plein Air.

Technical innovation: “One Pedal” mode

Another notable advance: the R4 will be the first Renault to offer a “One Pedal” mode, enabling simplified driving by using mainly the gas pedal to brake or accelerate. Steering wheel-mounted paddles, already present on the Mégane and Scénic models, will also be used to adjust regenerative braking.

Price and engines

Prices have not yet been officially announced, but the launch version, equipped with a 150 hp engine and a 52 kWh battery offering 400 km of range, could cost around 30,500 euros. A more urban version, with a 120 hp engine and a 40 kWh battery, offering a range of around 300 km, is planned at a later date.

Produced in Maubeuge, northern France, on the same AmprSmall platform as the R5, this new R4 shares 68% of its parts with its little sister, enabling costs to be reduced and more accessible versions to be envisaged as early as 2025, with a price below 26,000 euros, excluding bonuses.

With this new R4, Renault has succeeded in combining electric modernity and nostalgia, while meeting the expectations of families looking for a versatile, eco-responsible vehicle.
