Spectacular attack on an armored car in downtown Grenoble
This Thursday, October 10, the heart of Grenoble was the scene of an armed attack on an armored car. The incident occurred at around 10 a.m., on the corner of Cours Berriat and rue Jean-Jaurès. The Isère prefecture confirmed the incident, saying that the van had just left the Banque de France when it was blocked by two vehicles.
The heavily armed assailants opened fire. Security guards from the cash-in-transit company returned fire, hitting one of the suspects. After an exchange of fire, the assailants fled in a vehicle. According to the Grenoble public prosecutor, the attack resulted in two minor injuries: one hit by a shard of glass and the other involved in a traffic accident related to the event. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
A haul of almost one million euros
According to the initial investigation, the van was carrying almost one million euros, as a police source told H24 NEWS. At this stage, it remains to be seen whether the assailants were able to take part of the loot or not.
Reaction from the authorities
In view of the seriousness of the incident, a crisis unit was set up at the prefecture to coordinate operations. The perimeter around the scene of the attack was secured by the police, and the Lyon Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction (JIRS) took charge of the investigation.
This attack, in the heart of the city and in the middle of the day, illustrates the violence faced by CIT security guards, as well as the composure they showed in defending themselves. The investigation is continuing to identify and find the perpetrators of this daring act.
