Hugo Prévost, MP for Isère, announces his resignation after being excluded from the La France Insoumise group

Accusations of serious sexual misconduct
Isère MP Hugo Prévost officially announced his resignation this Wednesday, October 9. The decision comes a day after he was expelled from the La France Insoumise parliamentary group at the National Assembly, after being accused of “serious facts of a sexual nature”. In a statement published on social network X, he said:

I am aware of the seriousness of the accusations made against me. I have tried to defend myself, but I will not respond publicly.

Exclusion from the LFI group and report to the Vigilance Committee
The decision to exclude the MP was taken on Tuesday evening by the LFI group, after it was referred to it at the end of September by La France Insoumise’s Comité de vigilance contre les violences sexistes et sexuelles (CVSS). The latter reported serious behavior with sexual connotations, likely to constitute criminal offenses, and dating back to a period prior to the MP’s election.

Departure from the party and MP’s reaction
The 25-year-old former student unionist is no longer a member of his political party. In his press release, Hugo Prévost stressed that he was not aware of these accusations when he ran for the 1st constituency of Isère:

At the time I presented my candidacy for the Nouveau Front Populaire, and during the 1st and 2nd round elections, I was not aware of the existence of the accusations that have now been made against me.

A wave of reactions in Isère
This announcement provoked strong reactions in Isère, where Hugo Prévost won his seat last July against former minister Olivier Véran. His deputy, Salomé Robin, expressed her deep disappointment in a press release:

I am appalled and disgusted by these revelations. I would like to offer my full support to the victims. As I have absolutely nothing more to do with Hugo Prévost, I would like to inform you that I am stepping down from my role as deputy deputy, pending his resignation.

Call for an inquiry
In view of the seriousness of the situation, Olivier Véran, who was defeated in the last election by Hugo Prévost, has called for a full investigation into the accusations.

The affair is deeply shaking the La France Insoumise group, which finds itself facing a major internal crisis even though the party has always put the fight against sexist and sexual violence first. All eyes are now on the movement’s leaders to determine what happens next.
