Fire outside Cavaillon police station: police vehicles in flames, cause still unknown
Several police cars were engulfed in flames at around 5 a.m. on the night of Tuesday October 8 to Wednesday October 9, outside the Cavaillon police station (Vaucluse). According to information from France Bleu and Le Dauphiné Libéré, confirmed by H24 NEWS, the cause of the fire is still unknown. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police station evacuated and police custody moved
In view of the extent of the fire, the police station was immediately evacuated. Five people were in custody at the time of the incident, forcing the police to transfer them to another facility. The officers present experienced moments of great fear. “They saw themselves die,” confided William Maury, national night delegate for the Alliance Police nationale union.
Suspicions point to potential reprisals in response to recent police operations in the Dr Ayme district, where a major seizure of weapons and drugs has taken place in the last 48 hours. “We think these arsons could be linked to a new arrest that took place last night,” added William Maury.
Reactions from the unions: a climate of tension denounced
The police unions were quick to express their indignation. “Once again, a police station has been targeted,” declared the SCSI union of police officers and commissioners on X (formerly Twitter). “France is the only European country where police stations are regularly attacked. Why?” the union asked.
The national spokesman for Alliance Police, meanwhile, lent his support to the Cavaillon police force. “France 2024 is France on fire, France without authority, France without sanctions”, he lamented, underlining the urgent need to reinforce the security of police forces in an increasingly tense context.
