During the 1 May demonstration in Saint-Étienne, the PS-Place publique candidate in the European elections, Raphaël Glucksmann, was the target of spray paint

Accompanied by his team, he was greeted by around fifty hostile people as they arrived to join the march. Paint was thrown and slogans such as ‘Glucksmann, get lost’ and ‘Palestine will live’ were heard. Faced with this hostility, the candidate decided not to take part in the demonstration and to cancel his planned discussions with activists.

He deplored this conception of democracy, declaring that they were committed democrats. He also pointed out the presence of France Insoumise and Révolution Permanente flags among the hostile demonstrators. Despite the slogans and paint-throwing, Glucksmann felt that these angry demonstrations were the result of frustration, mainly due to recent polls showing positive momentum for his list.

He also clarified his position on the conflict in Gaza, affirming his support for an end to the violence while condemning slogans that deny Israel’s existence.
