Grenoble: The Suspect in the Murder of the Municipal Agent had a Dark Judicial Past

A murky past revealed

The 25-year-old man accused of shooting dead a Grenoble municipal police officer last Sunday had previously been convicted of murder. According to Grenoble prosecutor Éric Vaillant, the then 16-year-old was in the vicinity of the murderer when Luc Pouvin was killed near Grenoble in 2015. At the time, he was sentenced to eight months in prison for carrying a weapon.

Background to the case and recent developments

On 20 June 2015, Luc Pouvin died in Saint-Martin-d’Hères, a suburb of Grenoble. The murderer was sentenced to 15 years in prison on appeal in 2019. The suspect in the recent murder, who was a minor at the time, had been heard as a witness at both the first instance and appeal trials, according to the lawyers for the various parties.

The suspect is currently on the run. Jimmy Pouvin, the brother of the 2015 victim, told France Bleu Isère that the suspect and the shooter were present on a rooftop with the intention of causing harm. Although the suspect did not fire, he did not try to prevent his accomplice from doing so.

An investigation into ‘murder’ and ‘unintentional injury’ has been opened by the public prosecutor’s office in connection with the case of the municipal officer who was killed. In addition, the suspect had already been convicted of violence in 2023.
