Mont Blanc: The four climbers found dead after several days of searching
Trapped for several days on the slopes of Mont Blanc, the four Korean and Italian climbers have been found dead, the Haute-Savoie prefecture announced on Tuesday September 10. The victims, exhausted by the extreme conditions, unfortunately did not survive.
Despite particularly difficult weather conditions, rescuers managed to locate the first group of two Korean climbers, closely followed by the two Italians. Access to the site proved complex, with bad weather delaying rescue operations.
No contact since Saturday
The search began in the morning, but proved unsuccessful due to cloud cover, which prevented Chamonix helicopters from flying over the area. In the early afternoon, a new attempt was made to fly over from Annecy, when the weather conditions looked more favorable. At the same time, an Italian rescue patrol set out to reach the site by land.
The alert had been given late Saturday afternoon, reporting three roped parties in difficulty near the summit of Mont Blanc, which was then hit by severe weather deterioration. A rope party, also comprising two Koreans, was evacuated on Sunday morning at an altitude of 4,100 metres, with the help of extensive rescue resources. Unfortunately, weather conditions prevented the rescue of the other two roped parties, made up of two Koreans and two Italians.
