Drama in Mormant: a man confesses to killing his partner and their two children

On Saturday 7 September, a man was arrested in Mormant, Seine-et-Marne, after confessing to killing his family. At around 6am, an off-duty policeman on his way to duty noticed a man armed with a knife attacking a passer-by. Two pedestrians were injured, one in the arm and the other in the neck, but their injuries were not life-threatening, according to prosecutor Jean-Michel Bourlès.

The police officer managed to neutralise the assailant, who then claimed to have killed his wife and two children, aged 1 and 5. The man has no criminal record, but has a history of psychiatric problems. He is currently in hospital to determine whether his condition warrants police custody.

The investigation, which has been entrusted to the Paris Research Section and the Melun Research Brigade, concerns voluntary manslaughter and violence with a weapon. This tragedy takes place against an alarming backdrop: in France, a woman is murdered every three days. In 2023, 94 women were killed by their partner or ex-partner, and 60 minors died violently within the family in 2022.

For women in distress, 3919 is the national helpline number, accessible free of charge and anonymously.
