Two departments in the south-west of France, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées, have been placed on orange alert by Météo France for the risk of thunderstorms this Monday 2 September from 8pm

According to Météo France, a warm and humid air mass is favouring the formation of thunderstorms in the late afternoon over the Pyrenees, which will then move towards the foothills and the plains. These thunderstorms will be accompanied by intense rainfall, with accumulations of up to 40 to 60 mm, or even more in places.

The situation will deteriorate further during the night, with the arrival of new thunderstorms from Spain which will combine with those already present. This additional rainfall will come on top of the heavy rain that has already fallen.

However, these storms should be short-lived, with an improvement expected from Tuesday morning.
