A fire in a residential building in Nice claimed the lives of seven people, including four minors, on Wednesday night
The two individuals arrested and held in police custody as part of the investigation into the fire that claimed the lives of seven people in Nice on Thursday, July 18, were brought before the court on Monday, July 22. The public prosecutor’s office told H24 MEDIA that they have been placed under investigation.
Charges brought against the suspects
- The charges against them include :
- Destruction of the property of others by a means dangerous to persons resulting in death.
- Organized gang destruction of other people’s property by dangerous means, resulting in incapacity of more than eight days.
- Participation in a criminal conspiracy to prepare a crime.
- Participation in a criminal conspiracy to prepare an offence punishable by 10 years’ imprisonment.
Suspects held in custody
The suspect arrested last Thursday in the Alpes-Maritimes, suspected of being close to the suspected arsonists, has been remanded in custody. The second suspect, arrested on Sunday in Seine-Saint-Denis, has asked for time to prepare his defense, but has also been remanded in custody pending a hearing before the liberty and custody judge, scheduled for Thursday July 25.
Ongoing searches
Three other people are “actively sought” by the authorities. Aged 23, 18 and 17, they live in Alpes-Maritimes, Val-d’Oise and Seine-Saint-Denis, according to the Nice public prosecutor.
