Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, was placed under investigation and placed under judicial supervision on Tuesday July 9 as part of the inquiry into Ziad Takieddine’s retraction of accusations of Libyan financing of the 2007 presidential campaign. A judicial source confirmed this information to H24 NEWS

She is being prosecuted for “concealment of witness tampering” and “participation in a criminal conspiracy to commit organized fraud”. In addition, she has been placed under witness status for a criminal conspiracy to bribe foreign judicial personnel in Lebanon.

Ziad Takieddine, a Franco-Lebanese businessman, had initially accused Nicolas Sarkozy of using Libyan funds for his election campaign, before retracting his accusation in 2020. In May 2021, a judicial investigation was opened for “witness tampering”, “criminal conspiracy to commit organized fraud” and “fraud with a view to bribing foreign judicial personnel”. Nicolas Sarkozy was indicted at the beginning of October 2023 in this affair, while denying the accusations made against him.
