With just a few days to go before the second round of legislative elections, BFMTV welcomed the leaders of the main blocs in the running. Gabriel Attal represented Ensemble and the presidential camp, Marine Tondelier represented the New Popular Front, while Jordan Bardella defended the colours of the Rassemblement National

Hot political topics such as unemployment insurance, immigration and strategic alliances were discussed during this special evening. Each of the three leaders had an hour to set out their positions and answer questions from journalists.

Gabriel Attal expressed his regret at the absence of a tripartite debate, pointing out that Jordan Bardella had refused this confrontation. He also defended the suspension of the unemployment insurance reform, arguing that this decision was necessary to respond to the voters’ message expressed in the previous elections.

As for Marine Tondelier, she emphasised her movement’s humanist values, strongly criticising the Rassemblement National’s treatment of migrants. She said that if she won, her bloc would work to regularise the situation of undocumented workers and foreign students.

Jordan Bardella, for his part, focused his speech on the day-to-day concerns of the French, emphasising security and health. He asserted that the choice in the second round was between himself and Jean-Luc Mélenchon for the post of Prime Minister, outlining the potential composition of his government, which would include figures from a variety of political and civil society backgrounds.

This special evening gave voters a better understanding of the positions and visions of the main candidates in the race, just a few days before a decisive election for the country’s political future.
