Kendji Girac affair: the investigation concludes that the singer shot himself “intentionally”, and the case is dismissed

The singer was hospitalised at the end of April following a chest wound sustained in Biscarrosse. An investigation into “attempted voluntary manslaughter” was launched at the time

Kendji Girac was shot on the night of 21-22 April and hospitalised with a chest wound. The initial investigation for “attempted voluntary manslaughter” revealed that the shot had been deliberately provoked by the singer himself. The public prosecutor in Mont-de-Marsan confirmed these conclusions in a statement published on Monday 24 June.

The investigation ruled out any intervention by a third party, attributing the incident to alcohol and drugs. Although Kendji Girac claimed to be unaware that the gun, a Colt 45, was loaded, this could not be confirmed. The origin of the weapon also remains unknown, as the singer claimed to have bought it from a man at a caravan park in Biscarosse. Analyses found a “massive concentration of gunpowder” on Kendji’s clothes, indicating that he alone was responsible for the shooting.

Contradictory statements

Initially, Kendji Girac claimed to have used the gun to impress his girlfriend, Soraya Miranda, who wanted to break up. Later, he claimed that he was unaware of his actions and had not wanted to put pressure on her. Soraya Miranda confirmed that she did not feel she had been psychologically abused, which led to the case being dropped.

Charged with “acquisition and possession of a category B weapon” and “illegal use of narcotics”, Kendji Girac will not be prosecuted for these offences. Given the absence of a criminal record, the public prosecutor opted for alternatives. Kendji must pay two “citizens’ contributions” to a victim support association and undergo health monitoring for six months. He already paid the contributions on 11 June and accepted the obligations. The weapons charges have been dropped, and the drug charges will also be dropped, subject to compliance with the health monitoring.
