Twelve départements in central France will be under orange alert for thunderstorms this Wednesday 19 June. The departments concerned are : Côte-d’Or, Yonne, Indre, Cher, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire, Allier, Creuse, Haute-Vienne, Corrèze, Puy-de-Dôme and Loire. According to Météo-France, “this Wednesday will again see very heavy rainstorms, particularly towards the Centre, the Loire Valley and from Limousin to Burgundy”. The alert will begin at 6pm.
Météo-France warns that these departments could experience “sometimes violent thunderstorms” accompanied by “heavy rainfall”. Rainfall totals could locally reach between 30 and 50 mm in less than three hours, and between 50 and 80 mm over the whole episode. Hail and wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are also possible. The situation is expected to improve “from the middle of Wednesday night into Thursday”.
