There was another unexpected closure of the Paris ring road and several other major routes on Thursday 6 June, due to the US President’s visit to France. The closures caused huge traffic jams, with traffic levels described as ‘exceptional’. It was another difficult morning for drivers in the Paris region, with the ring road between Porte de Gentilly and Porte d’Asnières closed for the second day running, in both directions

On the outer ring road, traffic is also blocked between Portes de Clichy and Gentilly throughout the morning.

As for access to the ring road, the A13 motorway from Saint-Cloud towards Paris is closed. The A6a and A6b motorways between Wissous and Paris were also closed, but reopened shortly before 8.45am.

This latest surprise closure, to coincide with Joe Biden’s visit to France, caused major traffic jams. At 8.30 am, the Sytadin website recorded 415 km of traffic jams.

Already on Wednesday, the sudden closure of several routes without prior warning sparked outrage among motorists, who found themselves stuck on the roads between Orly and Paris.

Many drivers were forced to take alternative routes and secondary roads, leading to major traffic jams, particularly in the west of Paris and in Saint-Cloud, as H24 NEWS journalists observed on the spot.
