An individual of Russian-Ukrainian nationality has been taken into police custody after being rescued by firefighters from a hotel in Val-d’Oise, where he suffered serious burns following an explosion, according to the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Parquet national antiterroriste – Pnat). The intervention took place on Monday evening and the suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Pnat. Evidence suggesting the manufacture of explosive devices was found at the scene, including a device that had already been detonated.

The Pnat has announced the opening of an investigation into ‘participation in a terrorist criminal association with a view to preparing crimes against persons’, as well as ‘possession of incendiary or explosive substances or products, or elements intended for the composition of an incendiary or explosive device, with a view to preparing destruction, damage or harm to persons, in connection with a terrorist undertaking’. This investigation has been entrusted to the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI).

According to a source close to the case told H24 MEDIA, the suspect, originally from Donbass, is a Russian-speaking Ukrainian who subsequently acquired Russian nationality. He may have been associated with the Russian army.
