Two anti-crime brigades have also been mobilised

Following the death of a man in his twenties who was shot dead on the evening of Monday 3 June, police reinforcements have been deployed to Châteauroux, announced the Prefect of Indre in a press release.

‘To reinforce the safety of the people of Châteauroux, two anti-crime brigades and a canine unit from neighbouring departments are being mobilised on a daily basis from today. Intensified control operations will be carried out over the coming days throughout the Châteauroux conurbation’, the statement said.

An investigation has been opened by the public prosecutor’s office and handed over to the Orléans criminal investigation department. According to initial information obtained by H24 NEW from a police source, the victim, who was shot several times, was targeted by the passenger on a scooter who fled with the rider. According to France Bleu Berry, the victim was also hit with an iron bar. The incident took place at around 9pm on rue Eugène Delacroix, in the Saint-Jean district.

A police source told H24 NEW that the attack was linked to drug trafficking. The victim was already known to the law for drug-related offences. The judicial police are in charge of the investigation.
