President Emmanuel Macron will give an interview on TF1 and France 2 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. He will discuss the major international issues of the moment, including the European elections and the situation in Ukraine and Gaza. The interview, broadcast live from Caen on Thursday evening during the 8.00 pm news, was announced on Sunday by the two channels
‘To mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings and just a few days before the European elections, Emmanuel Macron will be live from Caen, where he will be taking part in several commemorative ceremonies. He will discuss these issues as well as the international situation in Ukraine and Gaza”, TF1 and France 2 said in a joint statement.
The President will answer questions from Gilles Bouleau (TF1) and Anne-Sophie Lapix (France 2) at 8.15pm, during a special edition organised after the commemorations of the Allied landings in Normandy in 1944. US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill will also be attending the ceremonies.
Eric Ciotti, the head of the Republicans, announced on X that his party would be taking the matter to Arcom, arguing that the opposition should be given the same speaking time three days before the European elections. François-Xavier Bellamy, head of the LR list for the European elections, also criticised this intervention, describing it as ‘another indecent electoral diversion’
With three days to go to the polls, this last-minute statement comes at a time when the President’s camp is in trouble. The majority candidate, Valérie Hayer, is well behind the Rassemblement National candidate, Jordan Bardella, in the polls, while the Socialist Party and Place Publique candidate, Raphaël Glucksmann, is hot on her heels.
