Radio host Sébastien Cauet was taken into custody on Wednesday 22 May by the minors’ brigade. He has been charged with rape and sexual assault as part of a judicial investigation opened on Friday 24 May by the Paris public prosecutor’s office, according to a source close to the case told H24 MEDIA . Cauet is subject to strict judicial supervision, including a ban on working as a radio host
He must also pay bail of €100,000, report regularly to the police station, undergo medical treatment and refrain from contacting the complainants or witnesses, according to the Paris public prosecutor’s office. His lawyers have announced their intention to appeal against the indictment and the conditions of judicial supervision.
After 48 hours in police custody, Cauet was brought before an examining magistrate to be charged with rape of a minor, rape of an adult and sexual assault of minors. The public prosecutor’s office has requested that he be charged with acts that took place between 1994 and 2014, involving minors in Paris and Geneva.
As a result of these accusations, Cauet has been withdrawn from NRJ. He is facing at least five complaints from women accusing him of rape and sexual assault. From the outset, Cauet has maintained his innocence, describing the accusations as a ‘tissue of lies’, and has filed complaints for slanderous denunciation and attempted aggravated extortion. His partner Nathalie Dartois has also been interviewed by the investigators.
