Mohamed Amra Files a Complaint Against the Prison Administration for Violence

Held in solitary confinement at the high-security prison of Condé-sur-Sarthe (Orne), Mohamed Amra claims to have been the victim of violence by prison guards and has filed a complaint, his lawyer, Benoît David, confirmed.

The alleged incident took place on Monday, March 24, as he was returning from a walk. According to his account, three guards threw him to the ground inside his cell while his hands were cuffed behind his back, then applied pressure to his pelvis and foot. He also claims that one of the guards fractured his ankle.

According to his lawyer, who met with him four days after the incident, Mohamed Amra was wearing a cast and was denied the use of crutches on the grounds that they could be used as a weapon.

A hearing was held on Wednesday, April 2, at the Caen Administrative Court to obtain footage from the prison’s surveillance cameras. The prison administration has agreed to allow access to these recordings. Additionally, a request has been filed with the Paris judge for liberties and detention regarding Amra’s detention conditions. His lawyer denounces “inhumane conditions,” citing daily full-body searches, wake-ups every two hours at night, and constant surveillance by heavily equipped guards.
