What you need to know about deadly Israeli strikes in Lebanon after rockets hit Israel

Escalation of Tensions Between Israel and Lebanon: Israeli Strikes After Rocket Fire from Lebanon

Rocket Fire and Israeli Strikes

On March 22, 2025, tensions between Israel and Lebanon escalated after the Israeli military intercepted three rockets fired from southern Lebanon toward northern Israel. In response, Israel launched strikes on Lebanese military positions, accusing Hezbollah of being responsible for the attack, although the group denied any involvement. The weaponry used by Hezbollah remained unclear, and no official claim of responsibility was made. The situation led to Israeli strikes targeting facilities allegedly linked to the group.

A Fragile Context After a Fragile Ceasefire

These strikes come nearly four months after a ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024, ending two months of open warfare. While the agreement reduced hostilities, both sides have reported regular violations of the ceasefire, raising fears of a more violent resumption of fighting. The recent Israeli offensive has resulted in at least two deaths, including one child, and several injuries in the town of Touline, southern Lebanon.

International Concerns and Calls for De-escalation

The UN, through its Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), expressed serious concerns about the potential escalation of violence. The organization called on all parties to avoid jeopardizing the fragile progress made in maintaining stability in the region. Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warned that further military operations along the southern border could drag the country into a new conflict, with disastrous consequences for the entire region.

This latest confrontation highlights the vulnerability of the ceasefire and the ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, particularly due to Hezbollah’s continued presence, supported by Iran. The impact on the Lebanese civilian population, already weakened by months of conflict, remains a major concern for both local and international authorities.
