Bétharram Case: Two MPs Exercise Their Investigative Powers at the Ministry of Education
MPs Violette Spillebout (Renaissance) and Paul Vannier (La France insoumise), co-rapporteurs of the parliamentary inquiry commission on state oversight and violence prevention in schools, visited the Ministry of National Education on Thursday, March 13, to exercise their investigative powers.
An Investigation to Clarify State Responsibilities
Their initiative aims to obtain documents clarifying the State’s responsibility in the Bétharram case, particularly that of François Bayrou, the current Prime Minister and former Minister of Education from 1993 to 1997, when some of the reported incidents allegedly occurred.
The MPs also seek information on other institutions recently embroiled in controversies, such as Stanislas High School in Paris.
With their investigative authority, the rapporteurs can request any documents or information necessary to advance their mission. A press conference is scheduled after their visit to share initial findings.
