Shooting on the A41 Highway: Jean-Pierre Maldera, a figure of Grenoble’s organized crime, killed

A deadly shooting took place on Wednesday, March 12, around 10:30 AM, on the A41 highway, between Grenoble and Chambéry, near the town of Touvet. The victim, Jean-Pierre Maldera, 71 years old, was a prominent figure in the Italo-Grenoble organized crime scene during the 1980s-1990s. A former influential member of Grenoble’s criminal underworld, he was shot and killed while driving his BMW. Another vehicle pulled alongside his, and the shooter opened fire. Maldera, struck, attempted to exit his car but was shot dead on the spot, according to a report in Le Dauphiné Libéré.

A life marked by organized crime

Jean-Pierre Maldera was well-known for his involvement in cases of pimping, extortion, and violent conflicts in the region. Along with his brother Robert, he made headlines for years due to their criminal activities. The Maldera brothers were feared figures in the local underworld, with Robert even being referred to as the “boss of Grenoble.” In 2015, Robert mysteriously disappeared after a meeting, and his body has never been found.

Traffic disruptions on the A41

Following the shooting, the A41 highway was partially closed in both directions, causing major traffic disruptions between Grenoble and Chambéry. Roadblocks were set up by law enforcement in an attempt to capture the shooter, but he remains at large. Authorities reported that traffic was allowed to resume at 2:00 PM, after several hours of interruption due to the police investigation.

Ongoing investigation

Investigators are actively searching for the responsible party. The crime scene has been secured with a tarp to preserve evidence. The investigation is being overseen by the public prosecutor’s office in Grenoble.
