Renault 5 and Alpine A290: Technical Operation to Prevent a Starting Failure
Renault has contacted 15,722 owners of Renault 5 and Alpine A290 vehicles, manufactured between September 1 and December 23, 2024, due to a potential risk of starting failure. The issue, traced to the power electronics unit, affects nearly all vehicles produced during this period.
Although this malfunction does not compromise driving safety, the manufacturer has sent a warning message via the My Renault app, advising owners to schedule a free inspection at an authorized service center. The intervention involves reprogramming the main electric motor inverter controller and takes only 30 minutes.
Renault clarified that this is not an official recall but a preventive technical operation to avoid potential starting issues, which may be accompanied by the STOP warning light and the message “electric motor failure” on the dashboard.
This quick and cost-free initiative aims to ensure drivers’ peace of mind, just a few months after the launch of the electric Renault 5 and Alpine A290.
