Pope Francis’ Health Status: Diagnosed with Bilateral Pneumonia, Condition Remains “Complex”

Pope Francis, hospitalized since Friday, February 14, at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, is facing health complications. According to a new medical bulletin from the Vatican released on February 18, his condition remains concerning, with a diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia.

A Complex Infection and Challenging Treatment

The latest chest scan revealed the onset of bilateral pneumonia, which required additional medication. The Vatican clarified that the infection, polymicrobial in nature and occurring in the context of bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, has made treatment even more complex. An antibiotic therapy involving cortisone has been introduced to address the situation.

Good Spirits Despite the Serious Condition

Although his clinical condition is still deemed “complex,” Pope Francis, 88, remains in good spirits. The Vatican confirmed that laboratory results and chest X-rays continue to show a concerning situation.

Since his hospitalization, the Pope has canceled all engagements. He is alternating between rest, prayer, and reading texts. On the morning of February 18, he also received the Eucharist, a moment of spirituality that helps him endure this trial.

Gratitude and Continued Prayers Requested

The Holy Father has expressed his gratitude to the faithful for their support and closeness during this difficult time. He thanked them and asked his friends and followers to continue praying for his recovery, deeply appreciating the solidarity surrounding him.
