Grammy Awards 2025: A Historic Night for Beyoncé, Gojira, and Chappell Roan
Beyoncé Finally Triumphs with Cowboy Carter
After years of waiting, the queen of pop has finally won the prestigious Grammy for Album of the Year with Cowboy Carter, her bold country project that captivated both critics and audiences. On Sunday night in Los Angeles, Beyoncé made history by becoming the first Black artist to be awarded in the Best Country Album category.
“I hope we continue to move forward and open doors,” she said, visibly emotional. Already holding the record for the most Grammys won, the 43-year-old superstar has now received long-overdue recognition for an award that had always eluded her.
Kendrick Lamar and the West Coast Rap Anthem
Another highlight of the evening was Kendrick Lamar’s double victory, taking home the awards for Best Song and Best Record of the Year with Not Like Us. This hard-hitting track, now an anthem of the West Coast, dominated 2024 and reaffirmed Lamar’s place as a rap powerhouse.
“There is nothing more powerful than rap. We are the culture,” Lamar declared upon accepting his award, choosing not to address his ongoing feud with Drake, which has shaken the music industry in recent months.
Gojira: A Well-Deserved Recognition for French Metal
French metal band Gojira did not leave empty-handed. Alongside opera singer Marina Viotti, the group won Best Metal Performance for their electrifying rendition of Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!), a song that had set the stage ablaze during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
“This award is a victory for everyone pushing the boundaries of metal,” said Joe Duplantier, the band’s lead singer and guitarist. Their success further cements Gojira’s place as a dominant force in the international metal scene.
Chappell Roan, the Pop Revelation of the Year
With her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Chappell Roan has won over both critics and audiences, earning the Grammy for Best New Artist. A rising icon of queer pop, she has made her mark with her extravagant style and electrifying performances.
On stage, the 26-year-old singer used her speech to call on the music industry to better compensate emerging artists: “Every musician deserves a decent salary, not just the headliners.”
An Emotionally Charged Ceremony
Beyond the performances and awards, the evening was marked by a moving tribute to the victims of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, which claimed dozens of lives and destroyed thousands of homes. Host Trevor Noah urged the audience to support those affected, reminding everyone that “even in adversity, the spirit of this city continues to shine.”
A night filled with emotions, the 67th Grammy Awards will undoubtedly go down in history.
