Aube: two schoolgirls go missing, police appeal for witnesses

Aube: Concerning Disappearance of Two Schoolgirls, Police Issue a Call for Witnesses

Since Thursday, January 23, Clara Perbet, 14, and Helena Diego, 15, have been missing after leaving their school, Paul Langevin College, in Sainte-Savine, a suburb of Troyes according to information from France3 Régions. Five days after their disappearance, concerns are growing, and an investigation for “worrying disappearance” has been opened by the Troyes prosecutor’s office. The Aube National Police have issued a search notice and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

A Departure Without Explanation

The two teenagers left their school around 3:30 PM, much earlier than what they had told their families. Since then, they have not returned home and remain unreachable. At home, Clara’s mother discovered that her daughter had taken some belongings, including a brown North Face jacket with white, yellow, and black patterns, two pairs of Nike sneakers, and a Lacoste hoodie.

Families Consumed by Anxiety

Jennifer, Clara’s mother, expresses her confusion and deep concern. “We didn’t see this coming,” she explains, adding that her daughter, who had previously been a victim of school bullying, had been doing much better in recent months. Helena and Clara, who became close friends after Helena joined the school during the year, disappeared without a trace, leaving their families in unbearable uncertainty. “We have nothing left to hold onto,” Jennifer laments.

Sightings and Ongoing Investigation

According to some reports, the two schoolgirls were seen in town on the day they disappeared. However, no further sightings have been recorded since. Helena’s family managed to access her Snapchat account, where she had reportedly mentioned the idea of running away, though it remains unclear whether this was premeditated.

The Troyes prosecutor’s office and the Aube police are actively conducting investigations to locate the teenagers and determine the circumstances of their disappearance.
