Wounded in a car chase, a 5-year-old boy between life and death
The vital prognosis of a 5-year-old boy remains compromised after being shot twice in the head, according to a statement from the Rennes public prosecutor. Despite two operations on Sunday and Monday, his condition now appears to have stabilized.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Pacé (Ille-et-Vilaine). The child, a passenger in a car driven by his father, was caught in a chase with another vehicle whose masked occupants were following their route. According to prosecutor Frédéric Teillet, the boy’s father, aware of the threat to him, was seeking refuge with the child’s mother, concerned for his son’s safety and his own.
The prosecutor stated that the shooting broke out when the pursuers opened fire, targeting the vehicle in which the father and child were travelling. The investigation, led by the Rennes Gendarmerie’s Section de Recherches and Brigade des Recherches, has been opened for “attempted homicide in an organized gang” and “criminal conspiracy to commit a crime”. Initial evidence points to a link with drug trafficking in the Maurepas district of Rennes.
